This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the 10th Annual National HBCU Pre-Law Summit and Law Expo in Washington, D.C. I was able to hear from many inspiring lawyers about their journeys and what it takes to become a lawyer.

Through engaging with my fellow aspiring lawyers, current law students, and practicing attorneys, I gained invaluable insight and information on the plethora of opportunities within the profession, as well as what is necessary to accomplish those goals!

About the National HBCU Pre-Law Summit

Evangeline M. Mitchell, Esq., Ed.M. founded the National HBCU Pre-Law Summit & Law Expo in 2014. As an HBCU graduate herself (Prairie View A&M University) and after finding that the National Black Pre-Law Conference and Law Fair, which she created in 2005 was not attracting enough students from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and more time was needed to address their unique issues and concerns, she decided to create a special event specifically targeting HBCU students and graduates interested in going to law school and becoming lawyers.

With the encouragement and support of GeColby J. Youngblood, M.Ed. (Alcorn State University and North Carolina Central University) and the North Carolina Central University School of Law community, the inaugural event was launched at North Carolina Central University School of Law in Durham, North Carolina on Friday, September 19, 2014.

Subsequent events have been held in Atlanta, Georgia at Georgia State University College of Law (2015, 2016, 2019), Morehouse College (2016), Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School (2018), and Emory University School of Law (2018), and in Greensboro, North Carolina at North Carolina A&T State University (2017), Bennett College (2017), and The International Civil Rights Center and Museum (2017).
